Triples Pool
a friend recently described a running "pool" that they use in their dart league, and it sounded like a fun idea. whether or not you can actually run a pool probably depends on what state you live in, but it's interesting enough to talk about.
players run a 50/50 type raffle during the night, except you take all the proceeds and place them into a "pool". so, say you run a raffle, and it raises $60. that's what's in the pool.
then, they take names of the shooters, place them into a hat, and choose one. that gives us a shooter. next, we need an inning.
so, they have poker chips with the numbers 1 through 20 written on them. somone selects a poker chip out of the hat, and whatever inning is written on it is where the shooter will aim.
the shooter gets three darts to try to hit the triple section of the chosen inning. for each triple they hit, they win 1/3 of the prize pool.
if they don't hit a triple with all 3 of the darts, the remaining money carries over into the next week. and, since it's hard to land three darts in the triple, money usually carries over.
so, in our case, each dart would be worth $20 to the shooter this week. if they hit 2 trips, they win $40 from the pool.
if money carries over and they run another raffle next week, a dart might be worth $30 or $40 next week.
i thought it was an interesting set-up they had, and wanted to make mention of it.
