we've been getting some visitors looking for information on hosting a dart tournament with a handicap.
i don't host handicapped tournaments. it's not that i have anything against them. i just tend to have averages on everyone involved, and we find a way to form teams that are all right about
on the Cap. or, they're guys that don't care about the Cap and want to play together as a team, win, lose or draw.
when some tournament directors put together a tournament, in the interest of competition, they place a Cap on the average that a player, or a team can have.
most of the tournaments are two or three man events where the combined averages of the players needs to remain under a certain number.
sometimes, they'll decide to allow any team to enter, but
add a handicap against the team with the higher average. the handicap could be as high as 100% i guess. it's not uncommon to find 70% handicaps, or higher.
HOW:- take the averages of the two teams involved, and subtract the smaller from the larger.
- apply the handicap percentage to that number.
- the result is the number of points you award to the lower scoring team
Example: it's an 80% handicap tournament. Team Pete averages 110. Team Todd averages 87.
the difference in the averages is 23 points. multiply that by .80 to get 18.4 points.
add 18 points to the score of Team Todd in their match vs Team Pete.
done.
adding a handicap to a tournament is a way to try to keep the competition even - and better competition often means more teams and more fun.
